Usually, this is the norm for me, the boys will just sit around and tell funny stories, but not this time. The hotel we were staying at happened to be pretty old and could have been beautiful, if it was still 1972. The boys had taken notice of this before the drunken escapade had began. It only seemed to escalate once alcohol had been consumed.

Danny, the vocalist of the band, decided he wanted to take an adventure and search the hotel for ghosts. This led us to take the elevator to the third floor, where the pool was. He ran up to the door and tried to pull it open, but seeing as it was past midnight, the pool was closed for the night. He stood there a bit and knocked on the door then gave up. After this defeat, we returned to the room on the 6th floor. Not even a minute later, Danny was back in the hallway, determined to find the ghosts he was looking for. As we followed him out, he started running full speed down the hallway, amazingly not tripping. Then suddenly, a girl about 17 years old walked out of her room and shut the door, right as Danny was passing. Danny seemed t obe caught by surprise and screamed “GHOST!” at the girl then fell over in front of her. The girl looked mortified and slowly started to walk away.

As we caught up with Danny, he began to tell us that he had seen the “ghost” and she was headed the other way. After a few minutes of trying to convince him there was no ghost, we got him up and started walking down the stairs, in search of more ghosts. After finding none we reached the lobby and wanted to go back up. Not wanting drunk boys walking up the stairs, me and my friend waited for the elevator. As we got in the elevator, we noticed the girl that Danny had called a ghost was in there. He reached out his hand and started touching her then finally realized, she was human.

Back on the 6th floor he apologized and told us that she was a human girl. “But did you see her! She was so pale she could have been see through!”, he said to us. We laughed a little bit then informed him that the girl was in fact indian, and not see through at all. That’s the last time I let a band play ghostbusters!

Ask and Be Answered

Kid: Fronz, how did you learn to scream like that?

Today’s lesson is about how money that comes in for a band breaks down for the actual band members, and why being in a band isnt a guarantee for fame and fortune.

Lets start off by breaking down a bands expenses before any money is even taken in. These percentages are agreed on by the band and…

I see fans that just don’t seem to understand why a band can get upset when some stranger just opens the door of the bus, van or dressing room and walks in saying “I’m a huge fan” and sits inside. (Yes this happens)

Personally I have kicked people out of the bus without even listening to a word…

In Connecticut, there are a handful of local bands who think they’re the best out there (they’re really not). Over the summer, one of these local bands (they disbanded since then) decided that they were going to go “on tour.”

A tour doesn’t mean that you play three to four dates out of state. You’re still a local band and people still don’t know who you are.

This band hyped up their “tour” like it was the greatest thing that was ever going to happen in the world. They bought a shitty van from another shitty local band and piled in it and went off to “tour.”

Moral of the story: local bands, chances are, you suck. If you don’t suck, it’s only because you’re better than all the other local bands who suck more than you. Don’t act like you’re “all that.” Go ahead and promote your band, but you’re not Slipknot or Manson, you won’t be selling out arenas any time soon.

While in Providence, RI...

Random black guy passing us: Look three girls!
That’s absolutely fine, don’t get me wrong. It’s just a matter of where you get the tattoo and how you represent it.

At a show last year, I saw a girl who was probably no more than sixteen years old with the Chelsea Grin logo tattooed across her back as a tramp stamp. Not only was it poorly done, but it took up the vast majority of her back. Normally, I wouldn’t have been able to see this tattoo because most people wear shirts at indoor concerts. This girl had rolled up her shirt over her boobs just to show it off.

Here’s the thing; if you want people to see your tattoo at all times, get it somewhere that it will be visible at all times. Parading around with your clothing half on is just trying too hard.

I get that you work for and around the music band/show scene. What i don't get is why this blog seems to be so mean spirited. I would think getting into it in the first place was because you love music. Why bash everything and everyone about except your own orbit of friends? I'm sure you were just "a fan" once. These kids have to start somewhere and they are buying the tickets and albums. I'm following in the hopes of reading some fun and inspiring stories of the scene. Thanks.

We’re not trying to bash anyone. We’re just trying to share funny things that we’ve seen. Not everyone is a “hardcore burst into tears upon meeting their idol” kind of fan. For example, I was never like that. I always just treated band members like people.

We’re just telling stories. Some of these stories aren’t even ours. We’re showing people that there’s a whole other side to the scene that they probably don’t know about.

Vanna - Is your idol a douchebag?

At a date of The Sick Tour in Tennessee, the post-hardcore band, Vanna, really showed their douchebaggery to everyone. A lot of the crowd did not know who they were so the vocalist was getting mad because no one was moving. So he gets water and sprays it. No big deal. Except he got it into this one chicks eyes and her eyeliner ran into her eye and it hurt.

So after the set he hears her saying it hurt and proceeds to ask, “Did I get water in your eye?” She replies, “Yes. It burns.” And he just says, “Good” and walks off the stage and we never saw him again.

One of her friends goes on Vanna’s Facebook page and calls him out. In doing so, all the band members and a good portion of the fans proceed to attack him with hate, comments about his weight, his hair, and his intelligence. All for a comment about how big of an asshole the vocalist was being. This got over 350 comments and a meme making fun of him.

Congrats Vanna.

"Thank you for being alive."

thedarkestofevils:

On Saturday, I took Alex to see Woe, Is Me. I’ve been friends with the guys from Woe, Is Me since their first tour ever, the Pycnik PArtery Tour. We wound up hanging out with Devo the entire night, making fun of the fans and blinding people with a flashlight. But that’s not the point of this post.

The member of Woe, Is Me who I consider myself to be closest with is Austin, their drummer and the former drummer of the band Of Machines (if you have any idea who they are). Anyhow, I didn’t get to spend much time with him on Saturday on account of his dad being at the show (which I figured was completely understandable not to mention adorable) but when I did see him after the show, he gave me a big hug and said “thank you for being alive.”

At the time, I made a joke out of it, saying that of course I was alive and that unless something bad happened, I would continue to be alive; to which both Austin and Alex said that I wasn’t allowed to die. But thinking about it, that was one of the nicest things anyone could have ever said to me.

Don’t take anyone you are friends with for granted because you never know when their time might be up. To everyone I know and love and to those of you who read my blog; thank you for being alive.

Do it, or you’ll regret it the next day.

Loading Out Frustration

If you’ve ever tried to reach someone via text message because you need to know something important and no matter what you can’t get through to them, don’t worry, you’re not alone. At Vans Warped Tour Connecticut, I was hanging out with Ryan Sitkowski of Motionless In White with two of my friends. It was time for load out and Ryan was trying to get a hold of the guys for help moving the stuff and no one was answering. Frustrated, Ryan asked my friends and me if we could give him a hand.

Let me explain this to you, if you’ve ever tried to move a half stack, you know that it is extremely heavy. Now, imagine moving a half stack up a hill in sand. At the Connecticut venue, the parking lot was entirely sand. Unfortuantely, Motionless In White had their RV parked in the far parking lot and it was up a fairly steep hill.

Getting the stack across the flat part of the parking lot wasn’t so bad. There was a walkway that was paved and we relied on that until we got to the hill. The hill was entirely sand. It took Ryan, my two friends and I to push the damn thing up the hill because the wheels kept getting stuck in the sand. But that’s not the worst part…

As soon as we got the stack half way up the hill, Ryan got a phone call from Chris saying that they were going to move the RV down by the gate where the stage was and that he should’ve waited for them to load out. Of course, Ryan was frustrated because he had been calling/texting everyone for a while before we started moving the stack, but it was too late to turn back.

We did manage to get the stack to the RV. It was just a long and painful process to all of us. Never doing that ever again.

Moral of the story: sometimes doing favors for band members isn’t always in your best interest.

Self Explanitory

Kellin Quinn: Have you seen my band?
